England is on the cusp of becoming the first team to play 1000 Test matches.
England is all set to become the first team to play 1000 Test matches in the history of international cricket. It will be playing its 1000th match against India at Edgbaston in the upcoming five test match series. In reaching this milestone, England will have taken 141 years.
England played their debut Test match against Australia in March 1877 at the iconic Melbourne cricket ground. Since then, out of the 999 men’s Tests, England have won 357 Tests and lost 297 Tests with 345 ending in draws. English Captain Joe Root will have the honour to captain his team on its most momentous match in the history of test cricket.
While England finds themselves on the verge of completing 1000 Tests, the next best is Australia with 812 matches. Aside from these two enduring nations, only West Indies (535) and India (522) have crossed the 500-mark.
International Cricket Council (ICC) has congratulated England and Wales Cricket Board as their team is all set to play their 1000th test match against India on Wednesday.
“On behalf of the cricket family, I want to congratulate England on their 1000th men’s Test match, the first country to reach this milestone,” ICC chairman Shashank Manohar said.
With the first test match of the upcoming 5 Test matches series, England would have played 1000 test matches, the host team will be even more determined to win the test to make it more special so that the English generations could proudly remember that they won their 1000th test match defeating the strong team like India. While Indian team will be also aiming to start the series with the victory, so that not only they could pour some water over England’s celebration of playing the 1000th test match, but play the next games with more confidence.
